Chirag United Comes Back in Winning Track

Chirag United again returns to the winning track. Today in a vital Sahara Premier Division CFL encounter Chirag registered a vital 1-0 win over Kalighat Milan Sangha. The young players of Kalighat M.S. delivered a tough challenge to their I-League opponent. But at the end of the day Chirag becomes successful to take all the 3 points from the match.

As expected from the very first minute Chirag United established their hold on the match. But because of some fantastic saves made by Kalighat M.S. goalkeeper Sourav Chakraborty the boys of Subrata Bhattacharya could not found the goal in the first half. But still in the final minute of the first half Chirag got a golden opportunity when Tulunga delivered a fantastic cross but in this occasion the header of Gouranga Biswas was deflected by the post. Whereas Kalighat M.S. also got couple of chances but the Kalighat forwards failed to convert the opportunities.

Early in the second half Chirag United started to play more attacking game in search of a goal. As a result of the repeated attacks in the 53^rd minute from a fantastic free kick of Tulunga Gouranga Biswas scored a brilliant goal by his header. In rest of the time Chirag created more chances but could not capitalize any of these chances mainly because of the fabulous performance delivered by the Kalighat M.S. keeper Sourav who is also selected as the Camellia Man of the Match. Towards the end the boys of Arun Ghosh created a good opportunity to score an equalizer but the experienced Chirag defence denied this opportunity.

Finally the match ended with 1-0 scoreline in favour of Chirag United who remains to the second position in the League Table with 13 points from 5 matches just under Mohun Bagan.

Chirag United continues their fantastic run in this edition of I-League. With the 2-0 victory against Salgaocar in home Chirag again goes to the top of the league table with 15 points in 7 matches. Most of all the team still continues their unbeaten status in the league.

From the beginning of the match Chirag kept their pressure on the Salgaokar defence. Both Gouranga Biswas and Edmilson Marquez missed two close chances of scoring respectively in the 19^th and 21^st minutes of the first half. In spite of the repeated attacks of the home team the visitors successfully protected their goal in the first half.

After a goalless first half Chirag players started the second half with more vigorous attacks and ultimately a well measured header of Brazilian striker Joshimar put Chirag in the lead in the 52^nd minute. With 1-0 up Chirag continued their attacks to the Salgaocar defence in search of more goals and in the 68^th minute by taking the advantage of the misunderstanding of Salgaokar defence Joshimar again scored the second goal for Chirag. In the 85^th minute Joshimar missed a close chance to further increase the lead as well as a chance of scoring a hattrick. Towards the end Salgaokar tried to build some counters but efficiently denied by the confident Chirag defence.

Jayanta Sen today played a key role behind this win of Chirag as his sincere effort led his team to take the complete control of the midfield to dominate the match. Because of his intelligent and effective football Jayanta was declared the Man of the Match.

This crucial 2-0 victory of Chirag United not just only took them top of the league table but also improves the goal difference in their favour. Still now in the tournament Coach Subrata Bhattcharya’s strategy worked perfectly to continue a great run of his team in the I-League. But Chirag will not get their Brazilian Striker Edmilson in their next match against Churchill Brothers on 13^th Nov for two yellow cards.

Chirag United settled a 1-1 draw with Sporting Club de Goa in an away encounter. With this draw Chirag still maintains their unbeaten status in this edition of i-League. In fact among the Kolkata teams Chirag is still the only unbeaten one. Today Chirag got a golden opportunity to get to top position of league table because Sporting Club de Goa came to the field without their star player Junior. But the poor finishing of the Chirag strikers ended the day with a draw.

In the first half both the teams got their own chances but failed to convert them in goals. After the goalless first half both the teams became eager for goal in second half. Chirag kept the control of the game by attacking more in numbers. The visitors had to wait long to open the scoreline. Chirag’s repeated attack in Sporting penalty area finally earned them a penalty in 81^st minute when Sporting's Samananda Singh brought down Edmilson in Penalty Box and refereee Arumughan Rowan awarded penalty in favour of Chirag. Edmilson Marquez made no mistake to score the leading goal (1 - 0). But the lead did not last long. In fact in the very next minute Chirag found them in the receiving end when Amos strikes back for Sporting Club de Goa off nice cross from todays Man of the match Joseph pereira (1 - 1 ).

With this draw Chirag United remains in the second position of the league table just behind Dempo. Though both Dempo and Chirag earned 12 points in similar number (6) of matches but the goal difference put the Goan team on top. Whereas for Sporting Club de Goa this draw only brought second i-League point for the team but the team still remains in the bottom position of the league table.

CHIRAG UNITED MAINTAIN LEAD IN I-LEAGUE

While Traditional Giants of Kolkata and Indian Football, K.East Bengal and M.Mohun Bagan are still not in their elements in the ongoing ONGC I-League 2009-2010, Chirag United SC have a wonderful start in the tournament. Today playing at Mumbai in an away match against Mahindra United, Chirag drew 2-2 to win a valuable point and thus maintained the lead in the points table. Coach Subrata Bhattacharya and his wards will be happy with their performance and the final outcome of the match.

Mahindra led 1-0 at halftime through a brilliant header by mercurial forwrad, Mohammed Rafi in the 39^th minute off a Paresh Shivalkar pass from the left flank. Chirag equalised in the 56^th minute when Brazilian Joshimar played one-to-one in the penalty box with Lalawmpuia and slotted the ball in. Mahindra regained the lead in the very next minute when Mohammed Rafi again headed in off a Steven Dias measured corner.

In the 75^th minute, Mahindra defender Debabrata Roy was given marching orders by the Referee for a cynical foul. Taking advantage of this situation, Chirag went all out for the equaliser and in the 78^th minute itself, Tulunga dribbled three players in the Mahindra Box abd brilliantly and lobbed the ball to an unmarked Joshimar who made no mistake with his header again ( 2 - 2 ) .Now Joshimar of Chirag United who scored 5 goals upto date wrote his name in the top scorer list with Baljit Sing Saini of JCT, Muritala Ali of Mahindra United.

Mohammed Rafi was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the match. While all other teams are relying heavily on foreign recruits for their goals, it is heartening to see an Indian forward Mohammed Rafi amongst the goals.

Chirag are now on 11 points from 5 matches and are still unbeaten. Mahindra also are unbeaten and are on 9 points from an equal number of matches.

Chirag United S.C the last year promoted I-League promoted team from Kolkata is now the I-League league leaders after 4^th Round Match when they edged past Kerala outfit Viva Keara 1 - 0 at their home ground Kozhikode's Municipal Stadium on Friday evening.

This was the first home match of Viva Kerala.Ex- East Bengal Brazilian Striker Edmilson scored the loan goal in 3^rd minute of the match and this was his 4^th goal for his team upto 4^th Round.

The visitors took the lead when Edmilson got a ball off a nice cross of Narugopal Hait from left flank but Viva defender were confused to block the Brazilian for their misunderstadninh and skilled Brazilian slot it past Viva Keeper.

Home team got a chance in 32^nd mintute from a beautiful 30 yard free kick of Captain MP Sakeer but Chirag keeper Somnatch Khara saved that by a corner.The first half ended 1 - 0 on behalf of Chirag United.

In the 2^nd half Viva played better than first half but Chirag's defence played well. Somnatch Khara saved a dangerous attack of substitute Anish KP of Viva who dribbled two Chirag defender in the box.Viva Keeper Shahinlal got the man of the mathc award today.

Viva now lies at the bottom of the League table with no points after three matches and no goals scored, while Chirag United Sports Club has 10 points from 4 matches and lies at the top of the league table which is 2 points ahead of Dempo and Churchill Brothers.

Chirag United who won their last two matches against Mohun Bagan and Mumbai F.C , today drew their 3rd match of 3rd Round against Air India at Salt Lake Satadium Kolkata in I-League 2009-2010.

Chirag Midfielder Jayanta Sen drew the first blood in 12th minutes of the match. Brazilian Joshimar passed a ball to advancing Lalkamal in midfield who dribbled two Air India defenders at Box and passed to Edmilson. Edmilson fallen down but unmarked Jayanta Sen follewed the ball to score brilliantly (1 - 0).

On 26th Minutes Dada Nabeel of Air India equalized through a header off a cross of Soccor Velho from right side of the box( 1 - 1).

Three minutes before ending the first session,Air India increased their margin ( 2 - 1 ) through Nigerian N.D.Opara, whose header off a cross from Ravinder Singh from left side beat Sandip Nandy...

Air India who leaded 2 - 1 in first half scored again through N.D.Opara in 48^th minutes when Uttam Singh's long throw in Chirag Box headed by Opera which entered into the goal after hitting the upper side of bar post.(3 - 1).

In 67^th minutes Gouranga Dutta ,substitute of Lalkamal Bhowmick reduced the margin for Chirag (3 - 2). Edmilson got a ball from Joshimar.Air India Goalkeeper Arnab came out to block the ball from Edmilson and charged him but ball went to unmarked Gouranga who pushed the ball easily.

Chirag United came back in the match in 75^th minute. Joshimar scored off a Denson Devdas cross and made the scoreline 3 - 3. This was the third goal of Brazilian Joshimar in this I-League. In 79^th minutes Chirag's Brazilian defender Du who was injured in last match against Mumbai F.C blocked a N.D.Opara move.

Man of The Match: Edmilson Pardal of Chirag

2^nd win of Chirag United. Ex-East Bengal striker Brazilian Edmilson scored twice and Chirag United earned three valuable points against Mumbai F.C today in their home match at Salt Lake Stadium.

Chirag scored first in the 7^th minutes of the match when Midfielder Jayanta sen passed a brilliant ball to Edmilson in the MFC Box and Brazilian Striker gave no time to Mumbai side keeper Amit Sinha Roy to save the ball.(1 - 0).

After 7 minutes Edmilson scored again off a square pass of an another Brazilian Joshimar just out side tha Box and Edmilson's powerful right footer went diretly into the Mumbai net.(2 - 0). In 34 minutes of the match Chirag's Subhasish Roy Chowdhury save an almost goal while MFC striker Vincent crossed a ball from right side and substitute of Noel Wilson Dane was trying to net the ball through a brilliant header.

In the first half Chirag was leading by 2 - 0. Chirag's another Defender Du was slightly injured in his throat today and went out from the field in first half. Australian defender Keegan Nash also went out from the field after getting a khee injury.

In the 64^th minutes of 2^nd half Mumbai side reduced their margin through Vincent . Chirag defender Kingshuk Debnath fouled MFC striker Abhishek Yadav in Air inside the Box. Referee awarded penalty in favour of MFC. Vincent scored for MFC( 2 - 1). By scoring two valuable goals for his team Chirag's Brazilian edmilson was awarded Man of the Match today.

Subrata Bhattacharjee’s Chirag United edges out Mohun Bagan in an exciting encounter as they avenge their semi-final defeat in IFA Sheild.The final scoreline was 3 - 2 in fabour of Chirag.

Mohun Bagan took the lead in the 15^th minute of the game when Marcos Perreira headed the ball from James Singh' corner.

Bagan suffered a huge blow when Baretto had to leave the field due to injury and young Branco came in his place.In the 32^nd minute of the match, the referee awarded Chirag an opportunity to equalize when Edmilson was fouled by Sangram. Edmilson converted the penalty with ease and the scoreline was back to square one again.

In the very next minute Bagan came close of scoring with Ishfaq’s cross to Mickey Fernandez but was cleared away by Sandip Nandy.Just before the conclusion of the first half the mariners were reduced to 10 men when Surkumar Singh was given marching orders after he fouled Gouranga Biswas.

In the 54^th minute Chirag’s Brazilian import Joshimar missed a chance of scoring from Tulunga’s pass but the the brazilian who scored a crucial goal against East Brngal in IFA Sheild Quarter Final match (where Chirag Won 4 - 2)..came back hard on Bencherifa’s mens as he scored a brace in the 66^th and 71^st minute to avenge their Shield Defeat against the same 10-men team of the Mariners.

In the 80^th Minute Chidi missed a golden opportunity to score and in the 88^th minute Chidi’s goal was disallowed as the refree showed him a yellow card.With that the last nail was hammered in Bagan’s coffin as they couldn’t repeat the 10-men shield win against the same opponent.
